During your abdominoplasty consultation Dr. Hardaway will explain what you can expect before during and after your procedure. Recovering from abdominoplasty takes time and it is important to follow the directions given to you by Dr. Hardaway very closely. Here are a few things you can expect during recovery from tummy tuck surgery.
Upon waking up from the procedure, you will feel very groggy and your abdomen will be swollen. It is important that if you feel any discomfort you take your pain medication. Waiting until the pain is unbearable will only slow the healing process and may actually require you to take more pain medication to get the pain to subside. As time passes the pain and swelling will go down. After a few days the swelling should be almost gone and you should be left with some bruising.
You will be given direction as to what you can and shouldn’t do in the weeks after surgery. It is important to follow these directions even if you feel ok to limit the risk of post-op complications. There will be restrictions on movement, directions on showering and changing the dressings and how and when to take medications.
The details of all post op care will be explained thoroughly before your procedure giving you the opportunity to ask any questions and address any concerns you may have. Abdominoplasty is a serious surgery. It is important to remember that recovery takes time.
